GPS Measurements of Crustal Deformation at the Yellowstone Caldera
To establish a moderate-sized, GPS based geodetic network that can be used for long-term monitoring of crustal deformation patterns associated with the Yellowstone caldera. Although the causative mechanisms for crustal deformation are important, the primary goal of this project is to provide an on-going, hands-on field experience for geology students. On an annual basis, and as part of a summer geology field camp at Eastern Illinois University, students will learn how GPS technology is applied to ground deformation studies at one of the Earth’s largest volcanic systems.

Luzerne County
A prototype GIS was developed by the Wilkes University GIS and Remote Sensing Center for the Luzerne County Engineers Office. The process involved the orthorectification of aerial photography, the conversion, registration and intergration of tax parcels and records. In addition plannimetric mapping was done on a selected area utillizing softcopy photogrammetric mapping. All processes were done "in house" at the GIS lab.

Riverfront Parks
Wilkes University is working in conjunction with the Wilkes-Barre Riverfront Parks Committee and The Luzerne County Engineers Office in developing a map of Kirby and Nesbitt Parks for management, planning and visitor use. The maps will show significant environmental features crucial to the parks management. In addition, the maps will show significant cultural and historic features to aid visitors in self guided uses of the Parks. Trails and other features will be included. The maps will eventually be placed on kiosks within the park for visitor reference.
